Whatipu - a beach for all seasons - Australian New Zealand Friendship Association great one
It is most of New Zealand's South Island associated great one with wild landscapes, rocks and treacherous waves. But there is one place that I think few people know and it's Whatipu, just over one hour's drive from Auckland city. This is the place if you are looking for solitude and magnificent scenery with a sense of wilderness not far from the New Zealand metropolis Auckland. Without a doubt, this is one of the most special places here in New Zealand Nordö. The beach is located 45 km from the city center, and is located on the southernmost tip of the Waitakere Ranges. great one The coast is known for its stunning scenery and its black sand beaches. We land here from Auckland via Titirangi. We were traveling on small winding roads through the dense rain forest great one and will soon reach the Huia and then on to Little Huia. Here we travel along the seafront next to the water to quickly come up to the mountains again. We meet almost any other cars and that strikes to be all alone on earth. Waitakere Ranges Regional Park covers more than 16,000 hectares of rainforest and coastal areas. Besides the beautiful beaches are treated to breathtaking views, spectacular rock formations, great one streams, waterfalls and farms overlooking the wild west coast. Via the meandering last bit we arrive at the road's end and to Whatipu Lodge and park the car. Whatipu Lodge, said prior to being haunted by ghosts, both of "the pink lady" and sailors whose ships were shipwrecked on this treacherous stretch of coast. The black beach is huge with regard to both the width and length and facing out to the Tasman Sea. Whatipu has been a natural habitat for humans for hundreds of years because of its rich natural resources great one and its strategic location. Initially the site was inhabited by Maoris who have fought several tribal war here. Between 1866 and 1886 there were sawmills and one hour mill. From here you can also walk to Karekare Beach, where the movie The Piano, was recorded and the gudabenådat beautiful Pihastranden. The bathing is not recommended and large signs warn against swimming because there are dangerous currents here. Other options are plentiful and the area has several great one trails, both caves, great one viewpoints and waterfalls. To discover this beach is sufficient enough for us this Sunday morning and you are interested great one in birds, it is a perfect place. Once out on the open beach, the sea, far out when it's low tide. Huge waves breaking in the distance and I can understand why this area was so dangerous for shipping in colonial times. According maorielegenden is this coastal part of the spiritual path, where the souls then moves on to Cape Reinga. The beach is virtually deserted except for the few anglers who hang out on the rocks by the lighthouse. great one It was hard to believe that all that we are just an hour away from a bustling metropolis. It feels rather like being light years away. On the iron-rich black sand is full of shells that have washed up from the sea. We also find small white skeleton pieces great one from the now rare squid spirula living on over one thousand meters deep. We go out to the caves and then walk away towards the lighthouse. It is important great one to keep track of the tide it is certainly no further amusing to be fixed and have to spend the night out at the lighthouse. The area is grand and beautiful but there is no place I would want to be left behind on after dark. When we get out on the rocks and on the other side of the mountain, we are met by a seal lying and resting on a rock. The peek a little surprised at us but let us stand there and look at it long and hard. It is not uncommon to encounter seals here but usually at a much greater distance great one so we are lucky. It also happens, sadly, that whales strand on this beach but thankfully it has not happened for a few years now. It is so simple that one who "Aucklander" forget these scenic places that are on the doorstep. Here I will return great one many times - and that no matter the weather or season. Next time I get a visit from Sweden and I'll show them Whatipu, one of my many favorite places here in the beautiful Aotearoa.
