Diabetikams nerekomenduojama vartoti sojų produktų. Ypač tai pasakytina apie vaikus, juk gyvulinės kilmės baltymai turi daugybę pranašumų prieš augalinės kilmės baltymus. Atsisakius gyvulinių riebalų gali būti neigiamų pasekmių sveikatai. Produktų, kurių sudėtyje yra sojų, atsisakyti derėtų dar ir todėl, kad dažniausia sojos būna genetiškai pakeistos.
Paveldimumas. Pagal stebėjimus, tikimybė paveldėti pirmo tipo diabetą pagal motinos liniją yra 3 7 proc., pagal tėvo liniją ši tikimybė yra 10 proc. Jeigu serga abu tėvai, tikimybė susirgti išauga keletą kartų ir yra 70 proc. Antro tipo diabetas ir pagal motinos, ir pagal tėvo liniją paveldimas 80 proc. Jeigu serga abu tėvai, tikimybė, kad susirgs vaikai, artėja prie 100 proc., žinoma, sulaukę brandaus
